The usage of greenery for roofs

In this post , I am going to research on the concept of green roof architecture.

"Sustainable buildings, also known as “green” or high-performance buildings, are designed to effectively use energy, water, and other natural resources while providing a safe and efficient indoor environment" (Serra Utkum Ikiz, 2023).  The aim of this buildings is to minimize the environmental impact to energy and resource use.  Th improvement of the energy performance with any additional equipment, improvement of air quality, and  contribution to urban ecology are few advantages of green roofs.  Green roofing systems are generally divided into three main types: extensive, semi intensive, and intensive. Extensive systems are lightweight and low- maintained , usually planted with hardy vegetation that can survive drought, frost, and low nutrients, making them ideal for areas not used by people. Semi intensive systems fall between the two, supporting a wider variety of plants and requiring  moderate care while offering some opportunities for visual and sensory variety. Intensive systems, often described as " gardens on a roof", are the most versatile and can host diverse plants, shrubs, and even small tress. While they require higher maintenance, they provide flexible, usable green spaces  that encourage recreation and bio diversity(Serra Utkum Ikiz, 2023).

Therefore, I am looking forward to use the semi intensive green roof for the project because my aim is to use them for the visual as well as for the functional purpose. Since it brings the visual value and it does not have to have a high maintenance, I believe it would suit for this design. However, I have already sketched how I wanted to do the green roof and the above image showcase how it looks like. Moreover, I believe this would work on my project and it would go with the theme as well as with the project brief.
