Term Three Welcome Post

 Welcome

In this term , I am looking forward to improve my architectural skills and knowledge through the challenges and mistakes which I have faced in the last term. Since this is the third term, it will be important for me to correct my mistakes and gain more developed skills and develop new skills through upcoming challenges. However, I am looking forward to improve my blog posts as I did not reflect my thoughts and commentaries very clearly in the last term . I am planning to improve my writing skill and learn how to reflect my ideas in my blog posts. Moreover, I will create my design boards more creatively and be more cautious to add citations and correct information to prevent careless errors. Not only that but also, I developed myself in different areas such as I developed my drawing skill rapidly through continuous practical drawings.  I plan to continue my passion in improving my drawing skill and modelling.

Apart from the term two, I am very excited to learn how to use software to improve my digital skill. For example, I am looking forward to learn how to usage the software to 3d modelling and site planning. Specifically, it will be very important for me as an architect student to improve my digital skill.

However, during the break, I was interesting and curious in crystals. Therefore, I went for some vintage shops and explored about crystals. As an architect student I found an architectural building which is built with an inspiration from crystals. For example, Royal Ontario Museum which was designed by Hariri Pontarini and it gave me a good impression and inspiration. Thus, I am planning to work on my project this term while I get inspired by famous architects and their designs and develop my skills.

Initial Ideas Generation

This term, I am going to design a Pre School Creche which will meet the demand of DMUIC staff and students requirements who have children. This creche  would cover the facilities for staff and students as well as who spend their time in DMU. This creche will be replaced in place of green house and it  will be included a fence on the outer perimeter, an outdoor space including a gardening area, active play and sensory exploration. Moreover, it will be included large windows to get natural light and skylights .

In order to develop more initial ideas regarding this project we did a small activity to create and generate ideas. In this activity, I created and generated new ideas through a combination of different words and my project brief. For example, roll, cylinder, swirl and curve were the words that I used to  generate new ideas with them. With these words, new ideas and thoughts were coming to my mind and I sketched down . I designed the pre school creche in different shapes and different forms which allowed me to think in different and unique ways. For example,  when the word "roll" comes out it conveys the ideas about the process of rolling of an object. Thus, I imagined and how I can design the building by comparing the above mentioned movements and how it resembles to the project brief . However, these are the designs  that I generated throughout the activity.

1. Roll                                                                                          2.Spirl

3. Cylinder                                                                                    4. Curvy

Later, we had to choose one of the ideas of my partner and had to develop the ideas. I developed her idea about shelf. I began to imaging how I can place these shelves and how it can be used. I began to design the shelves in front the table and hanged in the wall and connected it into the table with few decorations. Moreover, my partner also did add some ideas in to my designs too. However,  the idea which I designed with the word "curvy" was the idea that my partner developed. The below image showcase how she developed the the idea.. I designed the building the curvy edges for the walls and windows too. Since the building is for kids and in my point of view it is relatable and it will be more attractive if the building has different architectural design than a general building. Having curvy edges and asymmetrical and different shapes could be taken as features which attracts kids and and their minds. However, according to my partner removing the rooftop is a good step as it can be dangerous for kids. Further, she added more range of shapes for windows and added skylights. However, by combining all the ideas , I believe this idea will last until the week nine and I am looking forward to develop this idea with experimenting and practices throughout the upcoming weeks.

  1. You were supposed to post your initial sketches here - there is little point in discussing them if we can't see what you are talking about! Please add your initial sketches to this post.

Also you talk about your brief, but only describe it - discuss with the use of your drawings how you might approach this.

You made many improvements last term, it was really encouraging - I expect you to build on what you achieved this term - you understood what I asked you to do this term, now work to the same process this term, please.
