Further Research for the Project : Research on sketches of Geoffery Bawa &Mies Van der Rohe
This piece of work is done by Geoffrey Bawa who was a Sri Lankan Architect. This site plan is the parliament of Sri Lanka.
"Bawa conceived of the Parliament as an island capitol surrounded by a new garden city of parks and public buildings. Its cascade of copper roofs would first be seen from the approach road at a distance of two kilometers floating above the new lake at the end of the Diyavanna valley. The design placed the main chamber in a central pavilion surrounded by a cluster of five satellite pavilions(Archinomy, n.d.) . This above site plan caught my attention because of its clearness, detailedness and simplicity. Here , Bawa has set his drawing scales to match the project requirements. He has balanced the compositions of the sketch while make the sketch detailed. I can see that how Bawa managed the scale and the proportion of each buildings. Moreover, I can see that he used basic shapes while combining them with architectural style to design the site plan. Specially, the middle part of the site plan is the focal point as it is the main building of the parliament. Not only that but also, I could see that how Bawa balanced and cared about the garden too as it is well maintained even in the site plan. Thus, Bawa has showcased his talent and skill through this site plan and it is cleary visible through this reference.
"The detached, three-story villa is situated on a slope, facing southwest. The ground floor, or second story, comprises the main living and social areas, including the conservatory, terrace, kitchen, and servants’ quarters. The first floor, or third story, features the main entrance from the street, a passage to the terrace, an entrance hall, and rooms for the parents, children, and nanny, complete with essential facilities. The chauffeur’s flat, garages, and terrace can be accessed separately."(Team). Here. Rohe has added only the necessary details which are important . The exterior and the interior of the plan is clearly visible and simple and it is easy to understand even for a normal person. Even though, I have not study about architectural site planning before and how to read or understand them , but here even I could understand his main idea and plan. Moreover, he has used "ink pen "as his material here . Thus, he has conveyed his simple yet detailed idea through a simple sketch.

This villa plan is done by "Mies Van der Rohe" who was a modern architect.

This sketch is one of the sketches of "Mies Van Der Rohe's" sketches of his architectural planning. The above concept sketch is a residential sketch which is done with pencils. Here, Rohe has simply did his sketching with less detailed yet with necessary details. I can understand his concept through this sketch as the reflection is visible in front of the building that means there is a water body (ex: swimming pool).
However, through this research, I understood how the architects did great job for their sketching, planning, concept sketching and site planning.
However, throughout this research I understood about sketching and initial planning for the project. Therefore, I am going to do my site plan according to my ideas and sketch the concept with mixed material such as ink pen and water colours. This is my basic and first plan of the project.
This is the second site plan of the holiday cottage after doing the research.
