Welcome to Dreamy Architect

 Welcome to Dreamy Architect !

Hello , I am Dilki Fayona Samansiri, I am twenty years old . I am an Art student who is going to study Architecture. As a Sri Lankan girl who grew up in a country where is renowned for its natural beauty and history, I used to love and respect the culture and history of my country. I am a creative soul with deep appreciation for both art and nature who see the world through the beauty of nature. With a quiet yet passionate spirit, I always looking for new ways to blend creativity with nature into something truly beautiful. Moreover, I was a child with wide and curious eyes who always discover the unique and rare beauty in everything.

Once I laid my eyes on an unknown grand , sprawling house which was a timeless masterpiece. Its architecture was a blend of old-world charm and modern elegance. However, at that moment I was inspired with the unique and extraordinary charm of that eyeful view. Ever since, I was captivated by various buildings stood tall and strong, each one tells its own story. Furthermore, my fascination with architecture grew stronger as I got older.

I lived in Polonnaruwa for seventeen years: one of Sri Lanka's ancient cities and a UNESCO world heritage site. And it is renowned for its stunning architectural beauty and the city's religious , royal and urban planning architecture showcases the artistic and engineering prowess of the time such as royal places, stupas and monasteries. I was in this environment that my passion for Architecture blossomed. I began to see Architecture not just as a way to create the buildings and houses but a way to shape the world.

From here onwards, I am going to upload all my researches , plannings and work through this blog.

Geoffrey Bawa is the most famous and renowned  Architect and known as one of the most influential artist in his generation in Sri Lanka. I am highly Impressed by Geoffery Bawa when I was researching about the history of Sri Lankan Architecture. Even though, Sri Lanka had a renowned Architectural technology in the past , but with the arrival of Geoffery Bawa the Architectural Industry got influenced positively.

"Bawa's work is characterized by sensitivity to site and context. His work is instinctively, rather than self-consciously, sustainable. His designs break the barriers between inside and outside, between buildings and landscape, and he characteristically links a complex series of spaces".(Darling, 2024)

                                             Geoffrey Bawa's Lunuganga Estate

Among the best work of Geoffery Bawa , Lunugaga Estate is known as a renowned country house . Lunugaga had been used as a cinnamon estate during the Dutch Era and a Rubber Estate during British Era. In the past, the small house in the estate has given to the tax collector, and the new qualified lawyer "Geoffery Bawa"bought it from the owner to covert the estate bungalow in to a weeken house and create a tropical version of European renaissance garden. This property is located in Bentota and Bawa named this esatate as "Lunugaga"which means salt river. After becoming an qualified Architect Bawa continued to develop and build the estate for forty years until his death. The Most influential thing that makes me interested in this building is the designing the building with greenery view. When someone , goes to the estate, he or she would feel the sense of homely feeling with calm and queit nature. Bawa emphasises and highlights the natural beauty in Sri Lanka by mixing the european and modern architecture.
